Free Fantasy Football Picks-2010 IDP RANKINGS

By JohnnyNFL On August 23, 2010 Under Fantasy Football Picks

The 2010 fantasy football season is drawing closer, and the popularity of Individual Defensive Player leagues is continuing to grow. Here is the first installment of my 2010 IDP Rankings starting with the defensive ends and defensive tackles. This will be followed by my linebacker, cornerback, and safety rankings, and then wrapped up with overall defensive player rankings.

Keep in mind that some of these players may play more than one position, which could result in them showing up under a different position depending on the fantasy league you are playing in. This will not affect the overall rankings, however, so all of the IDP rankings to follow will still be able to let you know what players you want at the top of your draft board. I will try to provide you with valuable information about each position that will be able to help you in your quest for a championship. Keep in mind that like the offensive player rankings, IDP rankings will also change as the preseason and regular season progress.

Now, without further ado, here are my July 2010 Defensive Ends and Defensive Tackle player rankings.

Many IDP leagues have different roster requirements. You may be in a league that requires one or two DE’s and one DT, or you may be in a league that only requires one or two defensive lineman. When competing in a league where a DT is required, it is recommended to make your DT one of the final picks of your draft. This is because DT’s typically make less tackles and record less sacks than any other position. It is also due to the minimal difference in points that the position has to offer. The difference in the number one fantasy DT and the number 20 DT will likely only work out to be about 2 points per game.

Losing out one of the top 5 DT’s is not going to make or break your fantasy team. If you can get one of the top 5 with one of your last three draft picks, then that would be a great pick. However, if you miss out on one of them I would recommend waiting until your final pick to grab one, as there will hardly be a difference between the number 6 DT and the number 30 DT when it comes to fantasy scoring.

It is likely the the top scoring DT will have comparable numbers to between the number 15 and number 20 DE. Getting Dockett, Hayes, or Jolly as your starting DT can be nice, but if you are in a league that only requires one defensive lineman, I wouldn’t even look at a DT until at least the first 15 DE’s are off the board, and maybe not even until the top 20 are gone.

Grabbing one of the top five DE’s for your fantasy squad can definitely help your championship quest, but as long as you are able to grab one of the top 10 your team should be fine. When drafting in an IDP league, however, keep in mind that you still want to draft most of your offensive players first. The highest scoring DE is probably going to get your team as many points as the 20th best WR, so no matter how bad you want that star DE, don’t be too anxious and overdraft them, because it could severely weaken the overall strength of your team.

You will be a powerhouse in league when you get two of the top 13 as your starters. If they are already off the board by the time you need to draft a second DE, don’t reach for DE if you have other needs, because the difference between the number 14 DE and the number 30 DE will be minimal. I will continue to provide these little draft tidbits for every defensive position, but if you have any specific questions, please don’t be afraid to ask. Good luck and see you with the Top 60 Fantasy LB’s next.
